THE MODERN WEST
THE HOMESTEAD
Yes, I call our 1955 ranch house in the middle of town... in California, the homestead. It’s a mindset, a way of living. Home cooking, family life, and appreciating the small things. Showing gratitude for every duck brought home for dinner. Appreciation for our homegrown squash and fresh eggs from my sisters chickens. Taking notice of the beauty in everyday life.
FATE OR FOUND
Doesn’t it feel like fate when you find something special just going about your day?
I love to bring them inside and use them as decor. Think branches in a vase, or a discarded bird’s nest. My husband has found many antlers, skulls, and feathers while out in the wilderness. We used duck feathers for boutonnières on our wedding day and pheasant feathers in the flowers from birds he’s brought home for dinner. We have abalone shells from his ocean diving days and even an arrowhead we found in a creek.

Comfy & Cozy
We’ve had this sofa for 7 years and we still love it!!!
PILLOWS
Woven, tassels, leather, velvet, just some of my favorites.

ROOM SPRAY
Glass spray bottle
Fill bottle 1/2 way with water.
Fill the rest with Mrs. Meyers fabric softener, I love their geranium scent!
A couple drops essential oil. I use Now Foods Inc. essential oils depending upon the season. Citronella in the summer to keep the mosquitos away, cedar for winter, peppermint & eucalyptus when we’re sick.

KITCHEN COLOR
Do you have a kitchen “color”??? Mine is pistachio & sea glass... yes we keep our knifes in a dish - out of reach of lil children! My great grandmothers vintage glass jars, thermoses, dishes, and my mixer all in pistachio.
The Faux Cactus Collection
I used to have real plants, now I LOVE faux. They stay alive so matter what dark corner they have been forgotten in, you don’t have to remember to water them, they never tun brown, you don’t feel guilty that they died, etc… Here are my favorite cacti picks from Amazon, Target, and Hobby Lobby.
